BLACK BALIAN ARMENIAN CERAMICS T-SHIRT

History Behind the Collaboration:

Our latest collaboration is with the Balian Family who founded Balian Armenian Ceramics of Jerusalem.

In 1964, with the arrival of the peerless Marie Balian, a classically trained artist, her family  having escaped the Armenian Genocide in 1915, the Balian's revolutionised the art-form, imbuing their motifs with vivid, life-like patterns, with notable recognition from the Smithsonian in Washington D.C as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum, subsequently stamping their cultural impact on the artistic history of Jerusalem.

For more than a century, they have been producing authentic tiles and pottery, from the shaping of the clay to it's artistic refinement, each step is carefully performed  by their team of skilled artisans and artists alike, using traditional hand-making and hand-painting methods passed on from generation to generation.

Their perpetuity today is a testament to the resilience of the Armenian spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity.

On the front of the T-Shirt, we have placed the Balian logo on the left chest with AZAT MARD text printed in bespoke typography underneath the logo.

At the back, we have placed a graphic of a wall mural, which Marie Balian created in 1982. The T-Shirt is a slightly oversized fit and includes our signature red, blue, orange tab which is added to the side of the garment . This represents the national flag of Armenia.
